Hello,
Although invasion events provide rapid experience points, they may no longer be sufficient on their own to sustain the game's core gameplay loop. To address this, the game could benefit from the addition of brand-new high-level expedition regions and dungeons extending beyond Britannia, such as Hispania or Anatolia.
Alongside these new regions, the introduction of historical gladiator classes and a more dynamic equipment balance could help move the game away from a superficial stat-stacking race. The goal could be not merely to replace items with those offering higher raw stats, but to ensure that each weapon and armor type has distinct advantages and disadvantages against others. For instance, the heavily armored Secutor, equipped with a smooth, crestless helmet, could serve as a direct counter to the net-and-trident-wielding Retiarius by helping to neutralize their mobility and ranged pressure. Conversely, the Retiarius could use their range to counter bulkier, shieldless targets while remaining vulnerable to agile swordsmen. Similarly, spears could provide armor penetration against heavily armored opponents at the cost of a higher miss chance at close range, while tower shields could offer strong protection against projectiles while reducing character speed. Such a system could shift equipment selection from simply equipping the highest-damage items toward making strategic counter-play decisions based on the opponent's build.
The high difficulty of these new expeditions could also be balanced through a mechanic in which players hire these new gladiator classes as "Supporters." Before embarking on a challenging expedition or facing a dungeon boss, players could be encouraged to deploy the specific gladiator class that directly counters the enemy type they are facing. Choosing an unsuitable class could significantly reduce the chances of a successful expedition, while selecting the appropriate counter-class could provide a meaningful advantage in combat. Through these mechanics, Gladiatus could potentially move beyond a primarily passive stat-building experience toward a more dynamic and tactical gameplay system that better reflects the spirit of Ancient Rome.
